What to expect from LipoSonix™
Patients that are not suitable for treatment are those who have less than 1cm depth of adipose tissue (fat) in the area to be treated. In addition there are several other contraindications eg. pregnancy or blood clotting disorders.
If you are confirmed to be suitable for LipoSonix™ ultrasound fat reduction at your consultation with an Absolute Aesthetics® therapist, you can arrange a treatment time for your LipoSonix™ procedure.
Planning your LipoSonix™ treatment
Although LipoSonix™ is totally non-invasive, it does destroy fat and so it is uncomfortable. In some people we have found that it can be quite painful if full precautions are not used. To minimize the pain experienced, we have developed a range of pain management techniques for our patients.
We advise you to take some pain-killers 30 minutes prior to your treatment. We will offer you paracetamol but you might want to take an anti-inflammatory such as Nurofen or ibuprofen instead (if you are able to take these tablets).
You are advised to wear a compression garment for two weeks after the treatment - and you may see bruising for one to two weeks afterwards.
Therefore, you should plan your treatment for a time when, afterwards, you can have at least 2 weeks of wearing a compression garment and any discomfort or bruising will not affect your life adversely.
On the day of your LipoSonix™ treatment
On the day of the treatment, we offer several pain-killing techniques.
None of our techniques use sedation or strong pain-killers that cause sickness or drowsiness but we aim to keep our patients as pain-free as possible whilst giving them the most effective treatment possible.
Options:
- Oral pain-killers (tablets - Paracetamol and/or Mefenamic Acid)
- Entanox - known as "Gas and Air" (oxygen and nitrous oxide)
- Ultrasound guided Local Anaesthetic injections
As long as there are no known allergies, we would recommend using all of these together for maximum effect.
The process:
Prior to your procedure, you will have photographs taken of the area to be treated. We will weigh you and measure the circumference of the area to be treated (the depth of fat is also measured with ultrasound if needed).
The area to be treated will be marked out with a grid and the squares numbered.
Water will be sprayed over the area to be treated - you might get quite wet at this point! The water both cools your skin and gives good contact for the ultrasound.
The LipoSonix™ treatment will then be performed - taking from 20 mins to two hours depending on the amount you need to have treated and what settings you are comfortable with.
After your LipoSonix™ treatment
You will be offered tea, coffee or water and allowed home when you are sure that you feel fine.
We will call you back for follow up appointments at one, three and six months to repeat the measurements and to check that you are getting your desired result.
Although LipoSonix™ destroys fat, good diet and exercise will enhance the results. Similarly, bad diet and inactivity will mean that the remaining fat can grow to replace the fat we have removed - so it is important to look after yourself and get the benefit from the procedure.
We have an arrangement with a personal trainer who can help advise you on diet and exercise. Please ask us for more details if you are interested.
